As you may have heard, Iran is holding presidential elections on the 12th of June. Until that time, the Iranian government has blocked Facebook from the country. That’s right, the social networking website has been banned in Iran, along with such offenses as being gay (but sex changes are fine).
It’s not surprising that Facebook expressed “disappointment:”
“It is always a shame when countries’ cultural and political concerns lead to limits being placed on the opportunity for sharing and expression that the Internet provides.”
Ahmadinejad (also known as “the government”) proposed this deal because he noticed supporters have been campaigning on Facebook for who they wanted in the chair next - and it wasn’t him. It’s Mir-Hossein Mousavi, former Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, who is in the lead in pre-election polls with a whopping 52%. Bye-bye Ahmedinijad, hello, Ahmedinijad 2.0!
It’s a sad, sad time for Iran, but at least they still have Twitter. Tweet on, my Persian friends.

I compare this race to the Obama/McCain race…because it’s that exciting.
I just hope nobody dies in the process.
(Really, I mean: I just hope Mousavi isn’t killed in the process.)
